Landlord’s Good Deed Inspires Others

by | Dec 18, 2012 | Rental Property Management Tips

A letter from a landlord to tenants, telling them to deduct $70 from December’s rent to buy a holiday gift for someone special, has gone viral after being posted on a social media site.

After a photo of the letter was published on social sharing website Reddit, more than 600 people commented on the post, and a number of news agencies have broadcast the story.

Many of those commenting were tenants singing the praises of their own landlords.

For instance, one such tenant explained that after a good rental experience, he agreed to provide a testimonial for his landlord.  Another happy tenant took the initiative to provide three positive references on three different landlord rating websites.

Tenants who commented frequently mentioned landlords who keep the property in good shape — like the landlord who took it upon herself to replace the half-broken stove with a brand new one, even though the tenants were willing to limp by with the old one.

It’s easy for landlords to ignore their best tenants and give all the attention to the bad ones who take up so much time.

But these comments spell it out loud and clear — good tenants appreciate being noticed and rewarded for their efforts.
